There are a lot of my family members that live close to one another…then there are plenty of us that don’t. Megan is my cousins daughter that reside in Illinois. So needless to say, we pretty much never see each other in person. It’s incredible to keep in touch via social media and quite honestly, I don’t know that I could have been a part of something so incredible if we didn’t keep up on Facebook. Megan is certainly one of my biggest fans in the family, even still, I was still surprised and honored when she asked me to come photograph her wedding. (everyone goes awwwwwwwwe! lol)
I would have to be in and out of Chicago pretty quickly since Nicholas was starting 2nd grade two days after the wedding. I was bummed to not bring my kiddo since some of my family members have one, never met him and two I haven’t even seen in 15-20+ years. Crazy to think about that! It was so good to see everyone…and even ‘boss them around a bit considering I used to be the baby of the family. hehehehehe!!!
I could go on and on…and on…and on…about my weekend in Chicago. About how I never want to fly Spirit Airlines again, or rent from Dollar Car Rental…or how my cousin Tim made it his mission to give me a hard time every change he got. “That’s what cousins are for” he would tell me. (insert eye roll…two can play this game you know) I could into details about how behind we were before pre-ceremony formals but still finished the photos with time to spare. And how Megan and Nick were able to enjoy 30 minutes to themselves before the reception started (and not in front of my camera). Or even about how our sunset photo plans took a sharp left turn last minute and how it went from almost not happening to some of my most favorite sunset bridal portraits ever. Really though in the end, it was this crazy family of mine that came together for Megan and Nick, doing everything to make their dream wedding a reality. Of course with the help of Nick’s family….because they were simply fun to be around all day long. And helpful…very, very helpful!
