The thought of preparing for an engagement session with a professional photographer can seem overwhelming. Figuring out what to wear, how to do your hair & make up, deciding the location, props or no props, what if it rains can rattle anybody’s nerves. Also, not knowing what to expect from the session, how to pose, worrying what happens if you screw up. It’s a lot to think about and the word fun probably doesn’t come to mind.
Today I’m stoked to share Monica and Ravi’s engagement session from this past weekend and change your mind on how fun engagement sessions can truly be. Let’s start at the beginning…the planning stages.
Deciding the location can either be easy as pie, or a doozie if you don’t have your heart set on a specific spot. Monica asked if the Courtney Campbell Causeway would be a good for sunset photos. I became giddy at this question since I’ve been wanting to do a session here for a while now. Obviously I excitedly said YES! She also wanted greenery and this is where the tough decision making came in to play. After discussing a few options and seeing some previous sessions, Monica and Ravi decided on USF. One decision down…lots of planning to go.
Over the next couple of weeks, Monica and I stayed in touch discussing outfits, timing, hair and make up, props and what happens if the un-thinkables happen. You’d think that alone would be enough to make this engagement session a complete and utter success…and you would be wrong.
You see, locations and planning out all the details are fabulous and all, but it’s the couple that really makes the session a success. These two, while a little unsure of what to do upon arrival, quickly let loose after a little practice before our session started. Even with all the nerves during the planning and initially at arrival, put their trust in me to guide them every step of the way. Their smiles, laughs and romantic embraces are proof that engagement sessions are fun.
Monica and Ravi,
What can I say? You both were amazing to finally meet in person and I’m so stoked for your wedding next March! Thank you for trusting my lead and rolling with crazy things we couldn’t control….like parties on the bridge and wind that just wouldn’t quit. Thank you for letting loose and having fun with every step we took and for following me around every where, even though we were all sweating our booties off. I’m honored to feature YOU on my blog today!
